In this time of grief for so many around the world, Americans have come together to pray for the victims and families of the tsunami disaster. We think especially of the children who have been lost, and the survivors searching for their families. And we offer our sustained compassion and generosity as the people of the devastated region begin to rebuild. I urge all Americans to contribute as they are able. More
information about making a donation is available on the Internet at
www.usafreedomcorps.gov. Today, on the continent of Africa, nearly 30 million people have the AIDS virus -- including 3 million children under the age 15. There are whole countries in Africa where more than one-third of the adult population carries the infection. More than 4 million require immediate drug treatment. Yet across that continent, only 50,000 AIDS victims -- only 50,000 -- are receiving the medicine they need. Because the AIDS diagnosis is considered a death sentence, many do not seek treatment. Almost all who do are turned away. A doctor in rural South Africa describes his frustration. He says, "We have no medicines. Many hospitals tell people, you've got AIDS, we can't help you. Go home and die." In an age of miraculous medicines, no person should have to hear those words. -U S President

What is FROM?Friends Reaching Out Ministries (FROM as it's more commonly known) was established in Durban, South Africa in late 1995. It was later broadened to include a separate non-profit organization in the US, beginning in 1996. More recently, we have begun the process of attaining 501(c)3 status. FROM recognizes that Christians are called to more than just talk about Mission and Ministry. We seek to develop relationships that identify, encourage, and empower those that God is calling to reap the harvest.
Who is FROM?The leadership of FROM currently consists of Melvain and Lynette Donyes, along with several friends who serve as advisors. As the process of our non-profit status goes forward, we'll be adding more oversight to the organization. What does FROM do?Currently, we are gearing up for a return to active service in Africa, hopefully by January of 2005. We are exploring several ministry opportunities, particularly in Sub-Saharan Africa. Among our highest priorities are to assist local leaders through FROM.SA to deal with the rampant AIDS crisis in South Africa. Our first goals is to find churches and ministry teams with a burden for AIDS orphans. We hope to procure some land and staff to meet the spiritual AND physical needs of these precious children, who suffer the most from the "sins of the fathers". |
